A wealthy eccentric philosopher named Dr. Julian Bartholomew Cross, commissions and artist to illustrate, and a poet who translates, three newly discovered classical manuscripts that is said to explain an ancient philosophy gain for grotesque and self-destructive behavior.
While working, the artist and poet notices that the texts in the manuscript composes a dangerous, nihilistic undertone influenced by Nietzsche. Disagreements over the texts’ meaning caused the three to fragment. The artist produces ever more horrifying art; the poet engages in self-destructive acts, and the philosopher must neutralize the manuscript’s corrupting essence before its publication.
