I thought visiting my local bookstore Read It Again Books yesterday was enough, I remembered I forgot to buy a particular book! So, I returned to the bookstore today and purchased three books, but Nickel Mountains by John Gardener was not the book I returned to buy. The name of the book I returned to buy is Any Human Heart by William Boyd. Why did I buy this book? I have a knack for enticing book covers. This one caught my eye!
A simple and warm story of two people: a fat, gentle, middle-aged man who runs a rural diner, and the young, plain girl who drifts into his life and remains to become a part of it. As they move through the universal rituals of courtship and marriage, the birth of a child, the loss of innocence, confession, atonement, forgivingness, and the acceptance of death, John Gardner reveals what the two are to each other.
