The book doesn't dig deep enough into why the Dutch are different. The book doesn’t own up to the title. This is my first time reading any book by Ben Coates. His book is more about his extensive research earthling Dutch history, and his traveling journey, but the book doesn’t dive into anything interesting, or fulfilling answers of those, such as me, who has never visited Amsterdam.

The author tried to finish the book with what he thought, his theory, about his research and travel tale. But he didn't tell "why" the Dutch are different from other nationalities regarding their city and way of life. He tried to develop a theory.

From what I've read, there is no why the Dutch are different.

The book is more detailed about the Dutch and Amsterdam history.

The only thing beautiful about the book is its cover.
